Wardrobes are considered to be an investment, as you most likely won’t be shopping for a new one each couple of years. That means you need to put some thought in choosing one and here’s what you should be looking out for when making that important buy:
Firstly, consider how often you plan to use the wardrobe: wardrobes are designed to hold a number of clothes. Some people will rarely need more than two wardrobes, with hangers and racks on the interior to store their seasonal clothes, whilst others will have many wardrobes to house their seasonal clothes and accessories. As such, the type of wardrobe you choose needs to take into account how often you plan to use it. If it’s just for occasional use, then a cheaper option could be a simple single skinned wood wardrobe, with hangers made from nylon or cotton being used to hang garments. However, if you’re looking for something more sturdy, then you’ll be looking at an aluminium skin wardrobe or a double skinned wooden wardrobe, both of which have plenty of room for hanging different types of clothing.
If you have a small bedroom, or even a tiny walk-in closet, then there are still ways to get a great looking wardrobe. A cheap option is to purchase freestanding wardrobes; these come in a variety of styles and are usually quite stylish, although they lack a bit of depth and width compared to custom-made wardrobes. These wardrobes can be purchased to fit most standard size walk-in closets, so they are perfect for a smaller bedroom. Freestanding wardrobes don’t have the depth and width of a custom-made wardrobe, but if you’re not happy with this then don’t buy a freestanding wardrobe. A bespoke wardrobe will give you a much greater sense of depth and width, as well as giving you the opportunity to customise it to make it fit perfectly into your room.
The next thing to consider is whether to go for single, double or sliding doors. Single doors are good for small rooms, as they make a statement that your room is bigger than it actually is. They also blend in better with your surroundings and are generally less expensive than sliding doors. However, single wardrobe designs are often limited in terms of colours and patterns, so if you’re having trouble finding a design that suits your bedroom then opt for a double door rather than a single one.
Of course, if you have a larger bedroom you’ll need to choose from other styles of wardrobes. While they are relatively cheaper compared to other styles, they don’t have the same effect and can often clash with other bedroom designs. Leather is a popular choice and is available in various designs including flat top, sleigh top and enclosed designs. Leather has the benefit of being extremely durable and hard wearing, but it can be tough to keep clean, which means that it shouldn’t be left in the room for too long. You can find these types of leather wardrobes in many different sizes, so don’t assume that they are only suitable for bedrooms with small children.
If you’re having trouble finding a wardrobe that fits your bedroom, but you enjoy the way it looks, there are other options. One option is to look at hangers and chests of drawers as an alternative to a wardrobe. These can be designed specifically for a bedroom and come in the form of small drawers and chest-like structures that allow you to store all your accessories and still keep them out of sight and out of harm’s way.
